Testimonials

Over the decades it’s been my honor to serve as mentor to many medical students and residents, but I must say that Zach is the most outstanding one of all. Not just for his keen eye and prepared mind, but for his healer’s heart. His sincere caring, for not only his patients but for all of life, for the animals, for the Earth. For all that exists.”

Dr. Michael Klaper

The combination of Zach’s charisma and expertise led me to invite him to present his lecture “Food, Environment, and Zoonotic Disease” to the UC San Diego Plant-Powered Community. Our members were absolutely blown away by his talk not only because of his clarity of thought, but also because of his natural ability to connect and interact with the audience. In fact, two of our members were so inspired that they decided to conduct a deep dive into the topic and eventually published the research paper “The Next Pandemic: Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)” in UC Irvine’s Global Health Research journal.

I cannot thank you enough for delivering your public health seminar, “More at Stake than Steak: Chronic Disease and the Resurgence of Food as Medicine.” You strengthened students’ commitment to take an active role in identifying specific lifestyle factors to prevent chronic disease and promote health. It was no surprise when students listed this as among their favorite seminars. Your message resonates and inspires, now more than ever. The icing on the cake is when you literally and brilliantly answered all the students’ written questions. You are amazing!

Zach helped me to shift my thinking to looking at my whole body health and how everything works together. By choosing to nourish and care for my whole body (not just parts), I have been successful in achieving optimal health. My changes were simple to implement because it all made sense in the big picture of health and wellness for me.

The Plant Based Nutrition Group at Wayne State School of Medicine hosted Dr. Burns to speak about the importance of plant-based eating in disease reversal and social justice. He delivered a talk to over 140 first-year and second-year medical students with a focus on nutrition and social inequities, environmental justice issues involving factory farms, and animal agriculture’s contribution to climate change and zoonotic disease. He fiercely advocates for others, and he inspires future physicians to do the same.

Zach helped facilitate a Master Class on the many clinical benefits of a whole food plant based diet, advancing my appreciation for his knowledge, understanding and commitment. Thank you, Zach, for leading me towards a healthier and more pleasurable life.
