The abx prevent illness in abominable living conditions and also expedite weight gain. Meanwhile we face an antibiotic resistance crisis with 2 million cases of resistant infections resulting in around 25K deaths annually in the US. Despite the abx use on industrial farms, outbreaks regularly occur which requires culling the population of often tens of thousands of animals. The abx won’t touch viruses like avian flu, novel strains of which are projected to be more transmissible and severe than COVID.
